MySQL gurus from Oracle, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Twitter, Yelp (and more) have submitted papers and will speak at the third annual Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo 2014 in sunny Santa Clara, California this coming April 1-4.
If you attended last April’s Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo – and/or last month’s Percona Live London 2013 conference – then you understand the value of learning from some of the world’s best and brightest system architects and developers. The full conference agenda for Percona Live 2014 will be announced next month – but I’m pleased to share the initial speaker roster – and you’ll probably agree that the list of speakers and topics are impressive:
- Facebook database engineer Yoshinori Matsunobu will speak on “Performance Monitoring at Scale.”
- Oracle software development senior manager Mark Leith’s talk is titled: “MySQL 5.7: Performance Schema Improvements.”
- LinkedIn senior software engineer Davi Arnaut and Google senior systems engineer Jeremy Cole will co-present “InnoDB: A Journey to the Core II.”
- Zburivsky Danil, a consultant/MySQL DBA at Pythian, has a talk titled “Building Data Warehouses with Hadoop and MySQL.”
- Sunny Bains, senior engineering manager at Oracle, will speak on “MySQL 5.7: InnODB – What’s New.”
- Twitter senior engineering manager Calvin Sun’s presentation is called “Scaling Twitter with MySQL.”
- Tokutek vice president of engineering Tim Callaghan will team with Continuent CEO Robert Hodges for a presentation titled “Use Your MySQL Knowledge to Become an Instant MongoDB Guru.”
- Sunny Gleason, founder of SunnyCloud, will talk on “Fast Failover Using MySQL and Zookeeper.”
- Ike Walker, a database architect at Flite, has a presentation titled “Assembling the Perfect MySQL Toolbox.”
- And Jay Edwards, CTO at PalominoDB, will speak about “Continuous Delivery for DBAs.”

Why the same committee each year? Community should vote on proposals and committee should just work schedule,etc.
We are thrilled to have back some of our veteran committee members yet at the same time, we are thrilled to have a good number of new faces on the committee as well! Cedric Peintre from Dailymotion, Todd Farmer from Oracle, Tim Callaghan from Tokutek and Liz Van Dijk from Percona are all new members on this conference committee. Working through all the submissions and coming up with a schedule is no easy task. It is basically a second job to anyone who sits on the committee. Having the community as a whole in charge of voting and putting together the schedule is highly unfeasible. This is why we have such a array of committee members stretching across the community. They are working hard to provide the whole MySQL community with the best conference possible.
