I just wanted to thank you guys for this site and the tools like xtrabackup. I'm a DB novice (ie. I can use them and design alright, but not tune for high traffic, large db stuff) but have recently inherited a poorly designed, very poorly optimized/tuned MySQL DB and have been tasked with getting it working better AND moving it to less powerful servers even though it already runs poorly. Your website and tools have been a lifesaver. Using techniques and recommended settings from your site already has this thing running better.

Hi,
I was reading about MyISAM and InnoDB uses.. and have a doubt.. in some cases InnoBD is better than MyISAM, and some time MyISAM is better.. but i trying find something about joins performance against two..

Have some difference? Is one better, fast then other?

I did some searchs, but i didnt find anything

Thx,

I wasnt sure where else to post this, sorry..

When you make comments to this blog, it asks for a simple maths sum
I got one asking for 0 + 8, but it wouldnt accept 8 as the answer :D

I had to refresh the page to get a diff sum. Trivial I know, but I thought Id mention it

Dear Peter,
read through most of your article

I'm working with a few tables for a small trading company (but somehow manage to do tons of transaction daily TT.TT)
I required to display combination of data from 3 or more table
at first before I read through your article and others in the net, it take the computer if not 10-30 minutes to complete the display
now it only took roughly about 1 minute with the computer stopped for that time period (which is still unsatisfactory for me)
could you give me information whether it is the maxed capabilities of MySQL or could I improve it more (if so we might need to consult with you :))

here's the condition:
1 table with 15 column and 3000+ data (product)
1 table with 9 column and 1000+ data (sales)
1 table with 10 column and 3000+ data (sales detail)

I need to display data from each table combined into 1 display (sales, sales detail, product detail)
unfortunately I'm using VB6 (continuing their old system) should I recommend them to use other language?
we are also using standard PC (no server) core 2 duo 2ghz, 2gb ram to host the database and application all together

Is there any way we can contact you for a suggestion on an article to appear on your blog? I'm struggling with something a lot of people probably are, and haven't been able to find many resources on the subject. Thanks !

Hi Peter,

I know this is quiet a bad forum to post such a question though I'm hoping you gain a quick point of view from you or someone else from Percona with regards to Continuent's Tungston replicator as a drop in replacement for MySQL standard master / slave.

http://www.continuent.com/solutions/mysql-solutions/master-slave-replication

In a scenario where theres no funky binlog excludes to purge out DROPS or what not from slaves, as far as I can tell, the only real benefit is the ability to have a multiple slave configuration and the ability to promote a slave to a master and have those other slaves be fully aware of where I am at this point of time with regards the new master.

I am wondering what your thoughts are on Continuent's Tungston replicator? Have you had many customers use it?

Thanks and again I find these posts and book most informative.

Kind regards,

Trent
