We are pleased to present the 20th build of MySQL server with Percona patches.

Comparing to the previous release it has following new features:

• The build is based on MySQL-5.0.87
• innodb_rw_lock.patch is ported from InnoDB Plugin 1.0.3
• To be compatible with RedHat RPM repository, the naming scheme has changed to

  <rpm name>-<mysql version>-<percona build version>.<buildnumber>.<redhat version>.<architecture>.rpm

  Example:

  MySQL-server-percona-5.0.87-b20.29.rhel5.x86_64.rpm

Since the build 20 MySQL server with Percona patches is available in Percona RPM repository via YUM. To make it working add a file Percona.repo in /etc/yum.repos.d with following content

There is Debian packages repository is also available. See release page for configuration and usage guideance.

As of today release 0.9.5rc is available.

In this release there are following changes:
Changelog:

• Option --no-lock is added to innobackupex-1.5.1. Use it only while ALL your
  tables are InnoDB and you DO NOT CARE about binary log
  position of backup
• XtraBackup is ported for InnoDB Plugin 1.0.4. Barracuda file format as well as compressed tables are supported. We thank a well known Social Network site for the sponsorship.
  
• Windows conscious change more
• Impoved error messages in innobackupex
• Windows conscious experimental change
• Suppress purge when --stats
• Build number in RPM name. For instance, in the name xtrabackup-0.9.5rc-50.rhel5.x86_64.rpm 50 is the build number.
• Suppress master_thread ibuf operations for --stats
• Suppress ibuf operations for --stats
• fFx fatal bug at --backup when added --stats
• New option --stats to gather index stats
• Fixed some bugs for a 32bit platform

Fixed bugs:

• Bug #435634 in Percona-XtraBackup: "xtrabackup can't write to a file on windows"
• Bug #437788 in Percona-XtraBackup: "xtrabackup.exe can't write to a file"
• Bug #386535 in Percona-XtraBackup: "ibbackup_binlog_marker bug still persists"
• Bug #402884 in Percona-XtraBackup: "tries to create temporary tables in relative ./tmp directory"
• Bug #417178 in Percona-XtraBackup: "can't backup tables with $ in name"

The binary packages for RHEL4,5, Debian, FreeBSD, MacOS as well as source code of the XtraBackup is available on http://www.percona.com/mysql/xtrabackup/0.9.5rc/.

The Debian package is also available via APT. Just add these lines  in /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://repo.percona.com/apt lenny main
deb-src http://repo.percona.com/apt lenny main

Update the local database

# apt-get update

And install xtrabackup

# apt-get install xtrabackup

Devananda, also known as Deva, is a talented, detail-oriented MySQL expert and systems administrator. His previous job was at Hydra, an advertising network, where he was sole DBA and half of the systems and network engineering team. Deva likes to automate: he wrote the mycat MySQL administration tools, and he knows how to administer lots of servers simultaneously. He is active in open-source software development, and very excited about Drizzle.

Deva lives with his wife and dogs on Washington's beautiful Olympic Peninsula, far from noise, pollution, and crowds.

We are glad to present you release 8 of XtraDB.

The release includes following new features:

• The release is base on 1.0.4 version of InnoDB plugin. We thank Schooner Information Technology for sponsoring and testing the port of XtraDB to 1.0.4
• MySQL 5.1.39 as a base release

Fixed bugs:

• Bugs#413858: Crash from failed assertion in dict0dict.c
• Bug#417751:
  XtraDB crashes on startup on windows

• Number of mysql-tests are fixed

First is Yves Trudeau, about whom I can say many things:

• One of the top MySQL Cluster (NDB Cluster) experts in the world.
• An expert on all things High Availability, including DRBD and Heartbeat.
• Many years of experience with Huge Data.
• Half of the Waffle Grid team.
• A really nice person!

Yves joins us after a tenure of several years as a senior consultant at Sun/MySQL. Together with Matt Yonkovit, he plans to work on WaffleGrid (but as a new project under a new name, to be determined), and integration with XtraDB. Yves lives in Quebec with his family.

Next is Fernando Ipar. Fernando is our first dedicated Shift Support Captain^[1]. Fernando specializes in MySQL, GNU/Linux, systems administration, and high availability. Fernando has been involved in computer programming since he was 11, and in Open Source since 2001. He loves shade-grown coffee, music, and natural history. He lives in Uruguay with his wife and family. Fernando brightens our IRC channel with his helpful and cheerful presence!

[1] Shift Support Captain is kind of a dispatcher for 24-hour service. We have been doing 24x7 service through an on-call phone number for years, but a few months ago we started literally manning the desk 24x7 -- something that we have grown large enough to both need and justify, at our current size of around 30 people. Our customers can now use email, Skype, AOL messenger, or Google Chat (as well as the phone number) to get immediate attention, 24x7, from a technically savvy person.
