More on MySQL Error Messages

I wrote about MySQL Error Messages before and as you might guess I’m not very happy with quality for error messages it produces. Now I’m revisiting this subject with couple of more annoying examples I ran into during last couple of days.

Is VoltDB really as scalable as they claim?

Before I begin, a disclaimer. VoltDB is not a customer, and did not pay Percona or me to investigate VoltDB’s scalability or publish this blog post. More disclaimers at the end. Short version: VoltDB is very scalable; it should scale to 120 partitions, 39 servers, and 1.6 million complex transactions per second at over 300 […]

PROCEDURE ANALYSE

Quite common task during schema review is to find the optimal data type for the column value – for example column is defined as INT but is it really needed or may be SMALLINT or even TINYINT will do instead. Does it contain any NULLs or it can be defined NOT NULL which reduces space […]

Impact of logging on MySQL’s performance

Tools to use for MySQL Performance Review

There are some tools we commonly use doing performance review and optimization and we often ask each other where that particular stuff is located on the web or what is exactly name of the command what does that. Initially I thought creating internal Percona Wiki page, but thought there is no reason this information should […]
