Keynotes, BOFs, and the Community Networking Reception at Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo
Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo 2013: It feels like 2007 again
I actually don’t remember exactly whether it was in 2006, 2007 or 2008 — but around that time the MySQL community had one of the greatest MySQL conferences put on by O’Reilly and MySQL. It was a good, stable, predictable time. Shortly thereafter, the MySQL world saw acquisitions, forks, times of uncertainly, more acquisitions, more forks, [...]

MySQL 5.5 and MySQL 5.6 default variable values differences
As the part of analyzing surprising MySQL 5.5 vs MySQL 5.6 performance results I’ve been looking at changes to default variable values. To do that I’ve loaded the values from MySQL 5.5.30 and MySQL 5.6.10 to the different tables and ran the query:

Great Talks on Percona Live,NY!, Free Pass opportunity inside
You surely have heard about Percona Live,NY taking place October 1-2 in New York, you however might have been wondering what kind of talks you would see on this event and why would should you attend. The day one of this event is Tutorial day, which is long (half to a full day) presentations which [...]
thread_concurrency doesn’t do what you expect
Over the last months I’ve seen lots of customers trying to tune the thread concurrency inside MySQL with the variable thread_concurrency. Our advice is: stop wasting your time, it does nothing on GNU/Linux Some of the biggest GNU/Linux distributions includes the variable thread_concurrency in their my.cnf file by default. One example is Debian and its [...]

Find where your data is replicated, win a Percona Live ticket
Percona Live London starts on Monday, so this is the last in the series of free-Percona-Live tickets we’ll give away. But first — have you ever wondered what servers are in your MySQL replication hierarchy? We have, too. As consultants, a lot of times we need to get a quick overview of the whole replication [...]
Understand InnoDB spin waits, win a Percona Live ticket
It’s Friday again (so soon!) and time for our TGIF contest, to give away a free ticket to Percona Live London. Before we do that, though, just what in the world does this output from SHOW INNODB STATUS mean?
1 | Mutex spin waits 5870888, rounds 19812448, OS waits 375285 |
To understand this text, you have to understand how InnoDB handles mutexes. It tries a [...]
Return of the Query Cache, win a Percona Live ticket
It’s Friday again, and time for another TGIF give-away of a Percona Live London ticket! But first, what’s new with the MySQL query cache? You may know that it still has the same fundamental architecture that it’s always had, and that this can cause scalability problems and locking, but there have been some important changes [...]
