Recently, I was working with a client that asked about using Percona Xtrabackup to take a snapshot of a particular MySQL schema and then reload it with a different schema name on the same server. It caught me off guard because I’d never really thought about it – typically, I’ve used Xtrabackup simply to clone […]
Galera/Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC) for MySQL is a hot thing right now and some users jump right in without enough testing. Consequently, they’re more likely to either suffer failure or issues that prevent them from moving forward. If you are thinking of migrating your workload to Percona XtraDB Cluster, make sure to go through these […]
Migrating several single standalone MySQL server to one Percona XtraDB Cluster… MariaDB to the rescue !
Some weeks ago I had to migrate some independent MySQL servers (some standard MySQL masters, and some just standalone) to a Percona XtraDB Cluster of 3 nodes. So the easiest way would be to configure each node to become also an asynchronous slave of one of the production servers. Like illustrated here: But in this […]
Thanks to all who attended my webinar yesterday. The slides and recording are available on the webinar’s page. I was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of questions that came in and I’ll try to answer them the best I can here. Q: Does Percona XtraDB Cluster support writing to multiple master? Yes, it does. However, […]

I recently conducted a test backup of my “master-slave” setup in my VirtualBox as I was migrating from Percona Server 5.6.12 to version 5.6.13-rel61.0 with Percona XtraBackup v2.2.0 rev. 4885. However, doing the backup on my slave, I encountered this problem:
 Compressing and streaming ./test/checksum.ibd
 Compressing and streaming ./mysql/slave_master_info.ibd

This is related to a bug posted by my colleague George https://bugs.launchpad.net/percona-xtrabackup/+bug/1177201. While I was […]
Good news everyone! I recently presented a webinar: Percona Server 5.6: Enterprise Grade MySQL. It was also recorded so you can watch along or view the slide deck. As with all my talks, I am not simply reading the slides so it really is worth to listen to the audio rather than just glance through […]

As is typical at the beginning of every April, many of us who submitted talks to the Percona Live MySQL Conference and Expo are wondering why we submitted so many. I had 3 official talks selected, including one that is a 6-hour tutorial, as well as a BoF. Here’s the highlights: Percona XtraDB Cluster / […]
Facebook is a major user of MySQL and has pushed the performance limits of the technology. Their MySQL experts have deep, hands on knowledge of the technology. I’m pleased to welcome Mark Callaghan, Software Engineer for Database Infrastructure at Facebook, back again this year to the Percona Live MySQL Conference & Expo to share his […]
