Since we’re very busy working on Percona Toolkit 2.2 and other projects, I thought 2.1.8 (the current latest Percona Toolkit release) would be the last release in that series, but it introduced a new bug in pt-heartbeat (despite all the tool’s tests) that I’d like to fix. A single bug fix is probably underkill for a [...]
Hidden columns of query_review_history table
You can use pt-query-digest to process a MySQL slow query log and store historical values for review trend analysis into query_review_history table. According to its official documentation you can populate many columns in that table but there are other important ones such as ‘user’, ‘host’, ‘db’ which are not included by default. I will explain [...]
Dot-Org Pavilion at the Percona Live MySQL Conference
This is a cross-post from my personal blog. Are you involved with an open-source project that’s interesting to MySQL users, such as Nginx, PHPMyAdmin, Drupal, Jenkins, PHP, and so on? Percona just published the application form for dot-org groups to have a free expo hall booth in the Percona Live MySQL Conference in April. Please [...]

Optimizing slow web pages with mk-query-digest
I don’t use many tools in my consulting practice but for the ones I do, I try to know them as best as I can. I’ve been using mk-query-digest for almost as long as it exists but it continues to surprise me in ways I couldn’t imagine it would. This time I’d like to share [...]
Maatkit’s mk-query-digest filters
Have you ever seen BIG weird numbers in mk-query-digest report that just seem wrong? I have! Here’s one report I got today:
Logging MySQL queries from the client instead of the server
The “slow query log” is the single most valuable way to examine query execution on your MySQL server. Queries are logged with timing information, and in the case of Percona Server, a great deal of additional performance and other diagnostic information. But the execution time recorded in the log is the time the query took [...]
