In the first part of this article I have showed how I align IO, now I want to share results of the benchmark that I have been running to see how much benefit can we get from a proper IO alignment on a 4-disk RAID1+0 with 64k stripe element. I haven’t been running any benchmarks […]
I continue my benchmarks of Intel SSD 910, previous time I compared it with Fusion-io ioDrive http://www.mysqlperformanceblog.com/2012/09/07/intel-ssd-910-in-tpcc-mysql-benchmark/. Now I want to test this card against RAID over spinning disks.
I have a chance to test a system with Intel 320 SSD drives (NewRelic provided me with an access to the server), and compare performance with SAS hard drives.
MariaDB 5.3 has reached the release candidate milestone, and the 5.3 version promises a lot of new features and optimization (i.e in optimizer http://kb.askmonty.org/en/what-is-mariadb-53#query-optimizer). No surprise I wanted to check how all improvements affect general performance. So I why don’t we run old good sysbench benchmark.
There are about a gazillion FAQs and HOWTOs out there that talk about XFS configuration, RAID IO alignment, and mount point options. I wanted to try to put some of that information together in a condensed and simplified format that will work for the majority of use cases. This is not meant to cover every […]
Now that flash storage is becoming more popular, IO alignment question keeps popping up more often than it used to when all we had were rotating hard disk drives. I think the reason is very simple – when systems only had one bearing hard disk drive (HDD) as in RAID1 or one disk drive at […]
Previously I covered simple case with FlashCache, when data fits into cache partitions, now I am trying to test when data is bigger than cache. But before test setup let me address some concern (which I also had). Intel X25-M has a write cache which is not battery backuped, so there is suspect you may […]
I appreciate opportunity Jos van Dongen from Tholis Consulting gave me. He granted me access to servers with 8 attached Intel X-25M 80GB MLC cards. The cards attached to 2 Adaptec 5805 raid controllers, with 4 cards per controller. The cost of setup is 8 x 260$ (X-25M) + 2×500$ (Adaptec 5805) = ~3000$. Available […]
After my previous benchmarks of FusionIO 160GB SLC card, FusionIO team sent me for the tests another card, FusionIO 320GB MLC. I should say I really appreciate an opportunity to play with this card and with combination of two cards. This card is also not cheap, the price I can find on dell.com is $6,829.99, […]
I posted about FusionIO couple times RAID vs SSD vs FusionIO and Testing FusionIO: strict_sync is too strict…. The problem was that FusionIO did not provide durability or results were too bad in strict mode, so I lost interest FusionIO for couple month. But I should express respect to FusionIO team, they did not ignore […]
