Sysbench has three distribution for random numbers: uniform, special and gaussian. I mostly use uniform and special, and I feel that both do not fully reflect my needs when I run benchmarks. Uniform is stupidly simple: for a table with 1 mln rows, each row gets equal amount of hits. This barely reflects real system, […]
I have posted results for FusionIO 320GB MLC on our ssdperformanceblog.com blog. To not duplicate content, there is link on original post:http://www.ssdperformanceblog.com/2011/06/fusionio-320gb-mlc-random-write-performance/ Follow my twitter Follow @VadimTk for further results.
Earlier this month I wrote about vmstat iowait cpu numbers and some of the comments I got were advertising the use of util% as reported by the iostat tool instead. I find this number even more useless for MySQL performance tuning and capacity planning. Now let me start by saying this is a really tricky and deceptive number. Many […]
There is one new feature in MySQL 5.6 that didn’t get the attention it deserved (at least from me ) : “DATA DIRECTORY” for InnoDB tables. This is implemented since MySQL 5.6.6 and can be used only at the creation of the table. It’s not possible to change the DATA DIRECTORY with an ALTER for […]
ScaleArc recently hired Percona to perform various tests on its database traffic management product. This post is the outcome of the benchmarks carried out by me and ScaleArc co-founder and chief architect, Uday Sawant. The goal of this benchmark was to identify ScaleArc’s overhead using a real-world application – the world’s most popular (according to […]
I recently conducted a test backup of my “master-slave” setup in my VirtualBox as I was migrating from Percona Server 5.6.12 to version 5.6.13-rel61.0 with Percona XtraBackup v2.2.0 rev. 4885. However, doing the backup on my slave, I encountered this problem:
 Compressing and streaming ./test/checksum.ibd
 Compressing and streaming ./mysql/slave_master_info.ibd
Assertion "to_read % cursor->page_size == 0" failed at fil_cur.cc:293
innobackupex: Error: The xtrabackup child process has died at /usr/bin/innobackupex line 2641.
This is related to a bug posted by my colleague George https://bugs.launchpad.net/percona-xtrabackup/+bug/1177201. While I was […]
QA: Advanced Option Combinatorics (Pairwise Testing): Combinatorial mysqld Option Test Case Generation
How do we ensure that, when we have 35+ testable option combinations for mysqld, we test each and every combination of them? For example: will a different innodb_log_file_size combined with more innodb_log_files_in_group and a modified innodb_fast_shutdown setting truly not affect Percona’s log archiving feature? Most option-related bugs are caused by the setting of 1 or […]
